Only complaint was a bit of lack of communication waiting for shipping. Once received, very happy.
Old sea chests had them. So did campaign trunks, tavern doors, and the heavy wooden coffers where families once kept everything that mattered. Ring pulls on square iron plates were the hardware of objects built to be carried, opened, and handed down. The Coffer is a copper farmhouse sink that borrows that language: two solid copper ring pulls, each hanging from a square riveted backplate, set low on either side of a hand hammered apron front. They turn the face of the sink into something closer to a piece of antique furniture than a kitchen fixture.
The rings are mounted on hinged copper loops, so they hang naturally against the apron and move when brushed — a small, satisfying detail that makes the sink feel handled rather than merely installed. Each backplate is fixed with four rivets at its corners, echoing the way old hardware was made. Around them, the apron is hammered edge to edge in a dense, even texture that continues over the softly rounded corners, the rim ledge, the interior walls, and the floor of the deep single bowl, where the strikes circle out from the center drain in wide rings. The finish is a warm, medium antique copper — lighter than a dark chocolate tone, deeper than new copper — a colour that sits comfortably in almost any kitchen, from painted shaker cabinets to reclaimed wood.
Because the copper is unlacquered, the Coffer keeps changing with use. The rings, the rivet heads, and the front edge of the rim — the places hands touch most — will slowly polish to a brighter copper, while the hammered apron settles into deeper, richer tones around them. It is a copper farmhouse sink with real character on day one, and more of it every year after.
Every hevna sink is solid, unlacquered metal — no coating, no sealer. The finish is the metal, so it lives and changes with use. We build for that.

Both are solid metal with a living finish, so it comes down to tone and what the sink sits next to.
Copper runs warm and reddish, ages into deep browns, and the hammered texture hides water spots and small marks better than any other material.
Brass runs golden and pairs cleanly with brass faucets and hardware for a coordinated look. Neither is more durable than the other.
Pick the one that matches the warmth you want in the room. The exact finish and dimensions of each are in the product specifications.
Gauge is the thickness of the metal, and a lower number means thicker.
Thicker metal resists dents from heavy pots and cast iron. The exact gauge of each sink is listed in its specifications.
Our sinks are made heavy enough for daily kitchen use, and on the hammered models the texture also disguises the small marks that show up instantly on smooth stainless steel.
Yes. A brass polish, or lemon juice with baking soda, brings it back to bright gold in a few minutes.
The patina is always reversible. You choose: polish it monthly and keep the shine, or leave it alone and let it develop. Neither choice is wrong.
Yes. The drain opening follows the standard US 3.5 inch size, so standard disposals fit the same way they would on any kitchen sink.
Check the product specifications for the exact drain details on your model. If your disposal is an uncommon brand, a standard adapter handles it.
A solid copper or brass sink is heavier than stainless.
Most standard cabinets handle a drop-in or undermount with no changes. Apron-front and farmhouse installs carry more weight at the front, so have your installer confirm the cabinet support before fitting.
The weight of each model is listed in its specifications so you can plan ahead.
Acidic food left sitting will darken that spot faster than the rest of the sink. This is cosmetic, not damage.
It speeds the patina in one area, and the tone evens out with normal use or a quick wipe.
Rinse the basin after use and the finish stays uniform. If you prefer a slower, more even patina, an occasional coat of wax does it.
It will patina, and that is the point of a living finish.
Copper deepens into rich browns, brass into a warm antique gold. If you ever want the bright look back, a metal polish made for the material restores it in minutes.
The aging is always reversible. You decide whether to polish it or let it live.
This varies by model and is stated in the product specifications. Some are left raw to age naturally, others are waxed for a slower, more even patina. Check the listing for the exact finish of the sink you want.
Copper surfaces naturally resist bacteria, neutralizing it on contact over hours where stainless steel can hold it for days. It is one of the oldest reasons kitchens used copper. Brass is a copper alloy and shares the trait to a degree. Either way, normal cleaning keeps the basin sound.
Warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, and harsh acidic cleaners, which strip the patina unevenly. To slow the aging, an occasional coat of wax. To embrace it, do nothing at all.
