Solid unlacquered brass has a soul. With no sealant to hide behind, it breathes with your home, deepening over time into a warm patina that is yours alone. No two ever age the same way.

If you love the patina: do nothing. Let it live. A dry cloth after use keeps the tone even as it darkens.
If you prefer the shine: a minute with brass polish, or lemon and baking soda, brings back the bright gold. Always reversible.
What to skip: bleach, vinegar, and abrasive pads. They patina the metal unevenly.

Can I clean or polish the brass to restore the original finish?

Yes. A brass polish, or lemon juice with baking soda, brings it back to bright gold in a few minutes.

The patina is always reversible. You choose: polish it monthly and keep the shine, or leave it alone and let it develop. Neither choice is wrong.
