The Cova works on a different principle from every other sconce in the Hevna range. There is no arm, no gooseneck, no shade hanging outward from the wall. Instead, a single curved sheet of copper is bent into a half-cylinder and mounted flush against the wall surface — open at the back, open at the top, open at the bottom. The light source sits inside the cove and throws illumination in two directions at once: upward toward the ceiling and downward toward the floor, washing the wall on either side in warm copper-filtered light. It is not a sconce in the conventional sense. It is closer to a piece of architecture.
Before the patination, the craftsman cuts two horizontal bands of square perforations near the top and bottom edges of the copper sheet — evenly spaced, clean-edged squares punched through the metal one at a time. When the lamp is lit, these openings bleed light through in a regular pattern onto the wall surface behind and around the cove, creating a repeating geometry of small lit squares that frames the larger wash of light above and below. The tiger patina is applied after the perforations are cut — deep amber and near-black oxidation building up in large, irregular organic patches across the smooth copper face, the two tones shifting and merging like tortoiseshell or the surface of aged bronze. Every piece settles differently.
The Cova suits walls that have presence — plaster, stone, textured render. It does not hang from the wall so much as it grows out of it.

Keep the lamp out of the direct spray zone of a shower or tub, and have your electrician confirm the spot suits the fixture and meets your local wiring code before installing. Solid copper. Cheap sconces are usually plated steel or zinc, where the thin coating eventually chips or clouds and cannot be brought back. Solid copper has no coating to fail. It ages instead of degrading, and a polish always returns it to bright.
