It depends on your tub. A freestanding tub sitting away from the wall takes a floor-mounted filler that stands beside it. A tub against a wall or with a deck takes a wall-mounted or deck-mounted filler. The key difference is the plumbing: a floor-mount needs its supply lines roughed into the floor, so it has to be planned before the floor is tiled. Each listing states its mount type in the specifications, so match it to your tub before ordering.

This is the most important thing to check, and it varies by model. A tub filler installs in two parts: the rough-in that carries the water inside the floor or wall, and the trim and spout that mount on top.
