Most undermount sinks are defined by what you cannot see — the rim disappears under the stone, the transition is clean, the sink becomes a void. This brass undermount sink adds something back. A wide flat rim, hammered in the same dense texture as the basin walls and floor, borders the opening on all four sides — enough surface to catch light, to show the material, to remind you that what is underneath the counter is solid brass worked by hand. It is not a ledge for function. It is a ledge for presence.

The basin itself is square with sharp, precise corners — no rounding at the edges, no softening of the geometry. The walls drop straight down to a flat floor, and the hammering covers every face without interruption: walls, floor, and the full rim border all carry the same fine, dense texture. The drain is positioned slightly forward of center, a practical detail that keeps the basin floor clear for larger pots and pans. The brass is bright and warm — unlacquered, so it will deepen in tone naturally with water contact and daily use, the rim ledge and basin aging together as one continuous piece of metal.

Should I choose copper or brass?

Both are solid metal with a living finish, so it comes down to tone and what the sink sits next to.

Copper runs warm and reddish, ages into deep browns, and the hammered texture hides water spots and small marks better than any other material.

Brass runs golden and pairs cleanly with brass faucets and hardware for a coordinated look. Neither is more durable than the other.

How does the unlacquered brass patina develop?

Gauge is the thickness of the metal, and a lower number means thicker.

Thicker metal resists dents from heavy pots and cast iron. The exact gauge of each sink is listed in its specifications.

Our sinks are made heavy enough for daily kitchen use, and on the hammered models the texture also disguises the small marks that show up instantly on smooth stainless steel.

What gauge is the metal, and will it dent?

Yes. A brass polish, or lemon juice with baking soda, brings it back to bright gold in a few minutes.

The patina is always reversible. You choose: polish it monthly and keep the shine, or leave it alone and let it develop. Neither choice is wrong.

Does it work with a garbage disposal?

Yes. The drain opening follows the standard US 3.5 inch size, so standard disposals fit the same way they would on any kitchen sink.

Check the product specifications for the exact drain details on your model. If your disposal is an uncommon brand, a standard adapter handles it.

Do I need to reinforce my cabinet?

A solid copper or brass sink is heavier than stainless.

Most standard cabinets handle a drop-in or undermount with no changes. Apron-front and farmhouse installs carry more weight at the front, so have your installer confirm the cabinet support before fitting.

Can I leave dishes, lemon, or acidic food in it?

Acidic food left sitting will darken that spot faster than the rest of the sink. This is cosmetic, not damage.

Rinse the basin after use and the finish stays uniform. If you prefer a slower, more even patina, an occasional coat of wax does it.

Will it tarnish, and can I change it back?

It will patina, and that is the point of a living finish.

Copper deepens into rich browns, brass into a warm antique gold. If you ever want the bright look back, a metal polish made for the material restores it in minutes.

The aging is always reversible. You decide whether to polish it or let it live.

Is the inside sealed or a raw living finish?

This varies by model and is stated in the product specifications. Some are left raw to age naturally, others are waxed for a slower, more even patina. Check the listing for the exact finish of the sink you want.

Is copper really more hygienic?

Copper surfaces naturally resist bacteria, neutralizing it on contact over hours where stainless steel can hold it for days. It is one of the oldest reasons kitchens used copper. Brass is a copper alloy and shares the trait to a degree. Either way, normal cleaning keeps the basin sound.

How do I clean it?

Warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, and harsh acidic cleaners, which strip the patina unevenly. To slow the aging, an occasional coat of wax. To embrace it, do nothing at all.
