Story
Story
The Banda begins differently from every other piece in the Hevna range. Before any patination happens, the copper dome goes through a texturing stage — a tool is drawn across the surface in long, even horizontal passes, leaving fine parallel striations that wrap around the full circumference of the hemisphere. These lines are not decorative in the conventional sense. They are functional: they give the patination chemistry a surface to grip unevenly, creating the conditions for what comes next.
The dark patination is then applied in stages across the textured surface, and because the striations run horizontally, the oxidation builds differently in the grooves than on the ridges between them - darker in the recesses, lighter where the metal sits highest. But the most striking result is the banding: the craftsman controls the patina concentration across three distinct horizontal zones, working the chemistry lighter across the middle of the dome and darker above and below, until the shade reads as three bands of tone — dark crown, lighter mid-section, dark lower body — all blending at the transitions, all sitting on that fine linear texture beneath. The blackened gooseneck arm and collar are treated separately, matching the darkest tone of the dome's upper zone.
The interior is left as raw copper throughout. When the bulb fires, the warm amber glow it throws downward sits in complete contrast to the dark, complex exterior — a private warmth inside something that looks like it was retrieved from somewhere very old.
Finish & patina
Finish & patina
Every hevna wall lamp is solid, unlacquered metal — no coating, no sealer. The finish is the metal, so it lives and changes with use. Mounted and dry, that change is slow and gradual.
- Brass — starts golden and bright, then mellows into a warm, antique amber over months.
- Copper — settles from bright into rich russet and chocolate tones.
- It ages evenly — with no water and little handling, a wall lamp patinas slowly and uniformly, not in patches.
- Want it bright? An occasional wipe of polish keeps the shine for years.
- Want it aged? Leave it — it deepens on its own into a finish people pay extra to fake.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it hardwired or plug-in, and can my electrician install it?
Is it hardwired or plug-in, and can my electrician install it?
This varies by model. Most wall lamps hardwire to a standard wall junction box for a clean, cordless look, and some are offered as or can be wired for plug-in. The listing states which it is in the specifications. For a hardwired model we recommend a licensed electrician, which is standard practice for any hardwired light.
What bulb does it take, and is it dimmable?
What bulb does it take, and is it dimmable?
It takes a standard medium-base bulb. Bulbs are sold separately so you can pick the style and color temperature you want. With a standard bulb and a compatible dimmer switch, the light dims smoothly from bright to soft. The exact bulb fitting and maximum wattage for your model are listed in its specifications.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
Can I use it in a bathroom?
Solid copper handles bathroom humidity well. The moisture simply ages the finish a little faster, which most owners love. Keep the lamp out of the direct spray zone of a shower or tub, and have your electrician confirm the spot suits the fixture and meets your local wiring code before installing. Placed beside a mirror or vanity, it ages into a warm glow that fits the room beautifully.
Will two sconces age identically?
Will two sconces age identically?
They age together but never perfectly identically. Each one is finished by hand and patinas with its own light, air, and touch. Side by side, a pair reads clearly as a pair. Up close, each has its own character. That small difference is the signature of handwork, not a flaw, and it is what separates a real metal fixture from a mass-produced one.
Is it solid copper, or plated like cheaper sconces?
Is it solid copper, or plated like cheaper sconces?
Solid copper. Cheap sconces are usually plated steel or zinc, where the thin coating eventually chips or clouds and cannot be brought back. Solid copper has no coating to fail. It ages instead of degrading, and a polish always returns it to bright.
