Description
The Gorda is built around a shape that requires the craftsman to work against the metal's natural resistance. A flat copper sheet is pressed inward and outward at the same time — the belly forced wide and generous, the waist pulled sharply back inward, the neck brought to a narrow close at the top. It is the same principle as throwing a clay vessel on a wheel, except in copper, with a hammer and a form, and no room for error. The moment the belly collapses or the waist loses its taper, the whole form has to start again. When it holds, the result is a pendant with a presence that purely geometric shapes cannot achieve — full, organic, completely resolved.
The patination is applied in vertical strokes across the smooth, polished surface. Unlike rough or hammered copper, where the patina grips the texture and builds up evenly, a polished surface causes the verdigris to run and pool differently — the streaks stay sharper, the edges between green and raw copper more defined. The copper beneath, being polished rather than textured, stays brighter than on any other piece in the range. The result is bold vertical bands of teal-green alternating with channels of warm, reflective copper that curve around the belly of the gourd, following its contours from the narrow neck down to the wide rim. The interior is left entirely raw — a deep copper bowl that amplifies and warms the light of the bulb.
The Gorda is a pendant that earns its place in a room not through restraint but through confidence. It knows exactly what it is.

The Story We Almost Didn’t Tell.
We almost let the work speak for itself.
