Ovale Hammered Copper Wall Lamp

The Ovale is the most three-dimensional flush wall sconce in the Hevna range. Where the Cova is a half-cylinder — flat in cross-section — the Ovale is a full oval barrel: rounded at the top, rounded at the bottom, widest in the middle, projecting generously from the wall surface. The copper is hammered into this form by hand, the craftsman working the metal in concentric passes from the centre of each face outward, building the curve consistently until the barrel holds its shape across the full vertical height. The hammer marks left behind are large and bold — rounded facets that catch light differently at every angle, making the surface appear to shift and move as you pass it.

Before the patination, two horizontal bands of square perforations are punched through the copper near the top and bottom edges — evenly spaced, clean-cut squares that wrap around the full curved perimeter of the barrel. When the lamp is lit, light bleeds through these openings and projects onto the wall surface above and below the sconce in a repeating geometric pattern, framing the larger ambient glow that escapes from the open back. The patination is applied after the perforations, so the chemistry builds up around each cut edge, darkening the copper immediately adjacent to the openings and creating a subtle halo effect around each square. The mottled green patches that develop across the hammered face vary from piece to piece — no two Ovale sconces carry the same pattern of green and copper across their surface.

The Ovale is a wall light that functions as a surface when unlit and as a light installation when switched on. Both states are worth having.
