Copper Soaking Bathtub

The Copper Soaking Bathtub is built on one of the oldest principles in metalwork: that structure and ornament are the same thing. The double slipper body rises symmetrically from an integrated oval plinth, and where the body meets the base, three stepped banding rings encircle the piece — with a row of hand-set copper rivets running between them. It is a detail drawn from the great tradition of riveted metalwork, the kind of construction visible on ships, boilers, and bridges. Here it appears at the foot of a bathtub, and it transforms the plinth from a base into a statement.

The entire piece is hammered copper — inside and out, body and plinth — in a single warm antique brown tone. There is no contrasting exterior, no black, no polished gold. Just copper in one continuous, unified surface, the hammering covering every inch and the natural oxidation building variation across it. Darker pools where the metal has settled, warmer amber tones where the light catches the raised faces of the hammer dimples. A small overflow port sits discreetly on the front rim — the only interruption in the broad, smooth expanse of the slipper ends.

Copper has the unique advantage of oxidizing over time, which means its color continues to evolve with the life of the bathtub. The older it gets, the more attractive it looks. The antique brown you see today will deepen and shift over the years, the rivet details darkening alongside the body, the whole piece developing the kind of unified aged character that only genuine copper and genuine time can produce. Any marks that appear on the surface will gradually disappear into the patina, absorbed into the story of the piece rather than interrupting it.
